Answers

Q:What is Topicle?

A:Topicle is a search engine community. Topicle is not just one search engine, but many. Each searches only hand-picked sites. You and all the other users - the community - can create new Topicle search engines and maintain existing ones. Just like anyone can author articles on Wikipedia, anyone can create and enhance search engines on Topicle.

Please also see our About us section for more information.

Q:Why should I use Topicle?

A:The large serach engines search billions of pages on the Web. When you enter a search query you will often see not-so-useful search results among useful results. Not-so-useful search results can be commercial link lists and offerings, advertising sites or links leading to Ebay or Amazon listings. Topicle's search results are more relevant and useful, as Topicle only searches recommended sites handpicked by users. Of course, Topicle's search result quality relies on the URLs the community recommends.

Q:How does Topicle work?

A:Topicle depends on your - the community's - contributions creating useful new Topicle search engines and "feeding" quality URLs into existing Topicle search engines. When you enter a search query on a Topicle search engine, only a small list of URLs will be searched. Here is an example: Topicle search engine Mortgage Advice only searches www.realtor.org, www.fdic.gov, www.homeloanlearningcenter.com among some other URLs. When you select Mortgage Advice and enter "refinancing", you will only get results from the listed URLs - nothing else.

Q:How are Topicle search engines rated?

A:You might have noticed that each Topicle search engine has a "popularity" level. The popularity is indicated in stars - ranging from one star (not popular) to five stars (extremely popular). Two factors play a role in the popularity: How the community rates the Topicle search engine's URLs, and how many people use the Topicle search engine.
